To enrol in the PADI Underwater Navigator course you must:

Be at least 10 years old

Hold a PADI Open Water Diver (or qualifying certification)

Understand the principles behind effective underwater navigation and how to plan a dive with navigation in mind. You'll learn how direction, distance, environmental conditions and natural references can all be used to maintain awareness of your position underwater.

Learn how to use features around you to establish and maintain direction. You'll practise recognising useful references such as bottom contours, depth changes, light, surge and distinctive underwater features to help orient yourself throughout a dive.

Become more confident using an underwater compass to follow headings and navigate predetermined patterns. You'll practise maintaining a bearing while swimming and combining compass information with what you observe around you.
